Equity Mandate

At Toronto Arts Academy, we are committed to fostering an environment of equity, diversity, and inclusion that upholds the rights and dignity of every individual. This commitment is reflected in the following principles:

1.     Anti-Racism and Equity: We actively work to dismantle systemic racism and promote equity by ensuring fair treatment, opportunities, and outcomes for all individuals, regardless of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, disability, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, same-sex partnerships, age, marital status, family status, immigrant status, receipt of public assistance, political affiliation, religious affiliation, level of literacy, language, and/or socio-economic status.

2.     Access for All: We strive to eliminate barriers to participation by offering programs and facilities that are fully accessible. This includes providing scholarships for disadvantaged youth and equity-deserving communities

3.     Community Collaboration: We partner with organizations such as Kids At Home and SickKids to provide equitable access to music education. Through these collaborations, we: • Deliver free workshops and scholarship programs. • Provide tailored resources and opportunities for marginalized groups.

4.     Inclusive Programming: Our events and workshops celebrate diversity and inclusion by highlighting voices from Indigenous, Black, POC, disabled, and other equity-deserving communities. Past initiatives include: • Alternative Careers in the Arts Workshop Series, featuring Indigenous and POC leaders. • Music & Songwriting Workshops for teenagers in shelters, building skills in rhythm, songwriting, and production.

5.     Continuous Improvement: We regularly review and adapt our policies and programs to reflect evolving best practices in anti-racism, equity, and accessibility.

We believe that through music and the arts, we can build a more inclusive, equitable, and united community that celebrates the richness of diversity and shared creativity.
